Cowgirl's Train Set and Sugar Britches make the perfect Halloween treat at The Bottleneck

Cowgirl's Train Set is one of my favorite local bands, always playing brilliantly with a contagious energy and great songs. Halloween is one of the biggest nights of the year for concerts, parties and events at every bar and venue in Lawrence. On top of that, this year we had Game 4 of the World Series that same night, so Royals fans were packed around televisions until fairly late in the night. Competing with all this, The Bottleneck enjoyed a solid crowd of music lovers for their show.

The concert started with openers Arthur and the Neanderthals and Sugar Britches, followed by a costume contest with an awesome line-up of creative and home-made designs, ending with Cowgirl's Train Set rocking out through the extra hour of daylight savings!

I arrived too late to see all of the opening sets, but caught the end of Sugar Britches, a talented four-piece, all-female band playing bluegrass and blues with lovely harmonies.

Cowgirl's Train Set's eclectic style, instrumental solos and fan-favorite dancing tunes evoked the positive, endearing spirit that always makes me think of Lawrence itself. It struck me that Cowgirl's Train Set reflects the uplifting soul of Lawrence's vibrant music scene.

Both bands' charismatic performances made for the perfect Halloween treat and I hope to see each of them again soon.
