Friday night there was plenty going on downtown in Lawrence, but nothing could beat the phenomenal performance by Ashes to Immortality.
The local folk and bluegrass band is better than ever with a banjo
added into their dynamic range of instruments and vocals. To top it all
off Ashes released their first full length album last night. The new
album has 15 songs, which any fans of the band will love.
To start the night of Sky Smeed opened up with some original tunes as well as some well-done covers. The one-man-band has a knack for warming up a crowd and kept the growing audience well-entertained with his funny stories and good music.
The bar started to fill up as the headliner came on, with a thick crowd around the bar as Ashes filled up the stage. Ashes to Immortality has everything a bluegrass folk band could ever need; singers, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, stand-up bass, drums and banjo. The band has developed a strong repertoire of songs over the time they've played, which they showcased last night in their performance, as well as in their new album.
A full audience of fans and bluegrass lovers came out to enjoy one of the best bands to call Lawrence home. Folks were dancing and cheering along to the songs all night. Even in the summer doldrums it is always good to know that Ashes to Immortality can throw down and make a party!
